EDC - East Durham College
Animal Care

The College offer a fantastic range of Animal Care courses at its Houghall Campus, on the outskirts of Durham City Centre.

Equipped with all of the modern facilities you would expect from a renowned land based college, the site boasts extensive grounds, a specialist small-animal care unit, labs, stables and a working farm with large animals available for curriculum studies.

East Durham College has teamed up with Bill Quay Farm in Gateshead to offer students in the Tyne and Wear area easier access to join the Animal Care courses that are usually run from the Houghall Campus.

Students will study a range of modules from animal health and biology to animal handling, feeding and behaviour. Students will also get to take part in a number of work placements. For example students could spend time at a veterinary practice, the RSCPA, on Farms helping with lambing - we have even had students on placements at a wildlife conservation centre in the USA.

The College also offer a range of courses specific to Horse Care and Equine Studies. CLICK HERE for details of those courses.

We can offer all you would need to help you pursue a career in Animal Care and related industries. This could be as a Veterinary Nurse, RSCPA Officer, Police Dog Handler or working at a Kennels, Cattery or in a Pet Shop.

Our Animal Care courses are also a great route into Higher Education and Degree courses such as Animal Management, Animal Science, Zoology and Veterinary Nursing.

As a highly respected institution within land based industries, courses at the Houghall Campus really will help your career grow!

The Animal Care department run their own online weekly newspaper which can be found HERE. It provides a collation of information from the EDCAnimalCare twitter feed and also includes animal news stories from world, UK and local sources, as well as educational and technology related subjects including UCAS links and updates.
