Students will be given access to a wide range of learning opportunities and offered an individualised programme of learning.
Functional Skills are practical skills in English, Mathematics and ICT that allow individuals to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life and work. Functional skills give learners the opportunity to develop, practise and apply skills in meaningful contexts, thereby improving their employability and career opportunities.
Functional Skills offer a diverse and flexible provision across a range of levels. Within the last 12 months, English and Maths provision has been successful across a range of levels from pre-entry to level 2. Essential Skills practitioners work with learners in a variety of settings to ensure the provision is accessible for all.
The Essential Skills staff are all highly qualified and experienced practitioners that are sensitive to the needs of students and are dedicated to helping students achieve their potential. The overall success rate is higher than the national average.
The Additional Learning Support team has recently undergone a restructure to ensure that specialist support is available to meet students’ needs. Some support options available include one-to-one support for reading, writing and numeracy skills, dyslexia support, in-class support, ESOL and language support, support for learners with a sensory impairment and counselling services.
