Barbering Students To Hit The Stage In The Capital
East Durham College are heading to London to take to the stage at a national hairdressing event to demonstrate their skills.
Lewis Coils, 20, from Wingate, and Georgia Leadbetter, 23, from Seaham, are travelling to London’s ExCel Centre with their lecturers and also models from sports courses at East Durham College to take part in stage work demonstrations at the UK’s largest beauty and spa show, Salon London 2016, on Sunday 28th February.
The two students have been invited to take part on the Men’s Hairdressing Federation stage to perform haircuts and talk about college life, in an aim to promote the importance of education in the barbering industry.
This is an amazing invitation as it is rare to see students take part in stage work at major hair and barbering shows.
Georgia, who won a gold medal at the regional Association of Hairdressers and Therapists competition in Gateshead earlier this month, can’t wait to take part in the day.
Georgia said: “This is an incredible opportunity and I can’t wait to take part in the day.
“I have done some stage work earlier in the year and loved it, but it was nothing on this scale.
“I love my course at college and can’t wait to show visitors at Salon 2016 some of the things I have learned during my time here and to talk about how great and important barbering courses are.”
East Durham College barbering lecturer Alison Scattergood added: “This is a huge opportunity for these two students to go out there and show people what barbering education is all about.
“They are fantastic adverts, not only for the college but for barbering education in the country and I will be so proud to see them take to the stage at the ExCel on Sunday.”
