Upon successful completion of this course candidates can work within the industry as a beauty therapist or progress to Level 3 Beauty Therapy to enhance CV and broaden job opportunities.

Overview of the course: 

This qualification will provide students with the skills and associated underpinning knowledge and understanding to work competently as a beauty therapist. Candidates will work in a real working environment within a commercial salon to complete practical assessments. Theory classes will include all associated underpinning knowledge. Candidates will be required to formulate a portfolio of evidence and will have support and guidance throughout their course.

Entry requirements: 

Applicants must have the necessary personal qualities, communication skills. Applicants must be successful at interview, motivated, committed to maintaining 100% attendance and good appearance and presentation at all times. Learners under 19 years of age will need to complete functional skills or GCSE depending on qualifications already achieved.

Topics: 

Candidates will study: Health and safety, client care and communication, nail art, skin tanning techniques, make- up application, manicure and pedicure treatments, facial and eye treatments and waxing services which include; hot, warm and sugaring techniques. Students will also undertake reception duties and promote products and services to clients.

How is the course assessed?: 

Candidates are required to formulate a portfolio of evidence which includes; photographic work, research, case studies, practical evidence and assignments. Practical assessments will take place continually throughout the course in a real working commercial salon environment. Written assessments take place in the form of independent unit test papers which are scheduled periodically throughout the Beauty Therapy course.

Further study options after this course: 

Upon successful completion candidates can progress to Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy or VRQ Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-up.

Fees: 

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

If you are aged 19-23 on the day your main course starts and do not have a level 2 or above qualification you may not have any fees to pay.

If you do have a level 2 or above qualification or you are aged 24 years or over and employed on the day your main course starts fees for this course are payable. However if you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group or other work related benefit and you are undertaking this qualification to find work, your fees may be paid by the Government.

There is a requirement to purchase equipment for this course. The cost of equipment is around £160. Students with limited income can claim up to 75% of these costs. Further information will be sent to you closer to enrolment in August if you are accepted on to the course.
