Bill Quay Farm To Host College Course Information Days

After another fantastic year of courses ran by East Durham College at Gateshead’s Bill Quay Community Farm, staff are gearing up for the next academic year already.

Staff will be holding two open mornings at Bill Quay farm on Saturday 28th February and Saturday 21st March, between 10am and 12pm, for prospective students looking to join courses in September 2015.

Courses at the Gateshead site started in 2013 and have continued to go from strength to strength with East Durham College now offering three different courses at Bill Quay.

Courses now available at the community farm include Level 1 Countryside Skills, Level 2 Animal Care and Level 3 in Animal Management.

Staff will be on hand at the open mornings to give advice on the courses as well as being able to give you information on financial support, course guidance and progression routes available after completing the courses.

Craig Bankhead, Chief Executive of Bill Quay Community Farm Association, said: “Since launching the courses alongside East Durham College in 2013 they have been a huge success.

“We have had some fantastic students through the doors here at the farm.

“We can’t wait to meet more prospective students at these open mornings and get the ball rolling for our new intake in September.”

Ian Hall, course leader in Animal Care at East Durham College, added: “These open mornings at Bill Quay Farm will give prospective students and their families the opportunity to come along and see what we have been doing up at the farm since we started the courses.

“Since 2013 things have gone so well we had to launch extra courses and have had a great demand for places at Bill Quay Farm.

“We can’t wait to continue to see this grow over the next few years, it’s been a great start but we only want to continue to see these courses grow and continue to see brilliant results from the students who join us here.”
