Successful completion of the level 2 programme could lead you to a trainee job in the construction industry, an apprenticeship or a Traineeship.

Overview of the course: 

The main focus of the level 2 programme is to enhance practical tool skills and knowledge of relevant industrial processes and techniques. The sessions will be delivered in a workshop environment for practical and classroom based for theory. Also Incorporated into the study programme will be functional skills (maths & English), tutorial, work experience, academic tutorial and relevant trips & guest visits.

Entry requirements: 

Completion of level 1, to be working at level 1 for both maths and English.

Topics: 

The qualification consists of three core and four 'trade specific' units including one optional unit, such as:

• Health and safety

• Technical information, quantities and communication

• Construction Technology

• Setting out masonry structures

• Construct solid walling

• Construct cavity walling

• Construct masonry cladding

How is the course assessed?: 

The programme is assessed via online exams and practical test pieces for each unit.

Further study options after this course: 

Successful completion of the level 2 programme will allow progression onto the Level 3 programme the following academic year.

Fees: 

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

If you are aged 19-23 on the day your main course starts and do not have a level 2 or above qualification you may not have any fees to pay.

If you do have a level 2 or above qualification or you are aged 24 years or over and employed on the day your main course starts fees for this course are payable. However if you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group or other work related benefit and you are undertaking this qualification to find work, your fees may be paid by the Government.

If you do need to pay fees they are:

There is a requirement to wear personal protective equipment for this course. The cost of equipment is currently £15. Students with limited income can claim up to 75% of these costs. Further information will be sent to you closer to enrolment in August if you are accepted on to the course.
