Burns Night Supper Returns To Scene1 For 2016
Students and staff at East Durham College’s Scene1 restaurant are preparing to host their annual Burns Night supper.
The event at the restaurant, based within the College’s Peterlee campus, will take place on Thursday 28th January 2016, with a traditional Scottish menu on offer.
It will feature dishes such as, potato scones with a Scotch egg and whiskey sauce, mince n tatties, breast of chicken balmoral and tweed kettle.
Over 20 students are busy making preparations for the special event, which is being planned and executed as part of the hospitality and catering students’ course.
Sharon Littler, Programme Leader for Hospitality & Catering, said: “All the team are really enjoying planning and preparing for the event. It will provide the students with some valuable experience in planning and putting on a themed-night event.
“It’s great for the students to have these theme nights, having the opportunity to plan and cook a unique style of menu to a busy restaurant will be great experience for the students, it should be a fantastic night.”

The Burns Supper is an institution of Scottish life: a night to celebrate the life and works of the national Bard, Robert Burns. The first suppers were held at the end of the 18th century by Robert Burns' friends on the anniversary of his death, 21 July, Suppers are now traditionally held on 25 January, Burns' birthday.
