Once you have completed the ceritificate you will be able to progress to the final year of the Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) and have a licence to practice in the sector.

Overview of the course: 

This course is designed for students who are interested in working with children aged 0-7yr 11 months.
It reflects the latest developments and approaches within the early years sector. It aims to prepare students to work competently, safely and effectively and gain essential knowledge and skills to support progression into the next stage of the level 3 qualification.

This qualification gives you the underpinning knowledge and skills to work unsupervised or in a supervisory capacity with children and their families in a variety of settings once you have gained the full diploma in childcare and education.
The course requires students to spend two days per week on placement.

Entry requirements: 

To enrol on the course you will require 5 GCSEs at 9-4 grade which must include Maths and English at a minimum of 4 grade. Or you may progress from level 2 in the subject area with a minimum of Merit and the GCSE Maths and English requirement. You must also hold a successful reference and a clear DBS (Disclosure Barring Service).

Topics: 

Some of the topics covered on the course include; Child development, Play and Learning, Health and Safety in Early Years settings, Working with parents and Others in Early years, Safegaurding, Observation and assessment, Supporting speech and language, Supporting literacy and numeracy and the Early Years Foundation stage.

How is the course assessed?: 

Units are assessed internally, learners must achieve a minimum of a grade D to be awarded the unit. There is an external Effective Practice Study Task which is marked by awarding body.

The course requires students to spend two days per week on placement. Competence is assessed by an allocated assessor who will carry out direct observations of learners in a real work environment.

Further study options after this course: 

On successful completion of the course you will be able to progress to the second year of the course onto the Diploma in Childcare and Education to gain Early years educator status.

Fees for this course are: £2882.00

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

If you are aged 19-23 on the day your main course starts and do not have a level 3 or above qualification you may not have any fees to pay.

If you do have a level 3 or above qualification or you are aged 24 years or over on the day your main course starts you may be able to take out an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for this course.
