College Catering Team Present Cheque To Charity
Catering staff and students have handed over a cheque to a local charity group after a fundraising day held last month.
Staff and students from catering courses at East Durham College’s Scene1 restaurant invited members from the local Macmillan Cancer Support charity team for a meal at the restaurant to handover the money they raised during a recent bake sale day.
The fundraising day saw students don fancy dress whilst selling cakes and other sweet treats along with setting up a karaoke event in the restaurant based in the college’s Peterlee campus, with the event raising a total of £545.
Course leader in hospitality and catering at East Durham College, Sharon Littler, praised the hard work of the students and was pleased to be able to raise money for a brilliant cause.
Sharon: “The students put on a fantastic day in Scene1 last month and we raised money for a brilliant cause in Macmillan.
“It was great to be able to invite down local people who work so hard to volunteer so much of their time for Macmillan to Scene1 for a meal to say thanks for their hard work and handover this cheque during the evening.
“Both staff and students really enjoyed putting together and taking part in the event and we will be looking towards doing more fundraising events in Scene1 in the very near future.”
