College Lecturer To Help Develop National Course Standards
An East Durham College lecturer is set to have a major input on the teaching of barbering throughout the country.
College barbering lecturer, Alison Scattergood, has been named as City & Guilds and Men’s Hair Federation’s (MHFed) Technical Ambassador for Education.
The exciting new role adds to her titles of British Master Barber and Master Craftsman in Barbering, and will see Alison work alongside renowned figures in the industry to help mould barbering education throughout the UK going forward.
Alison will also travel around the UK visiting different colleges and setting out ways in which they can improve standards.
Alison is delighted to have been asked to take up this new role and is looking forward to being able to draw on her knowledge of the teaching environment to help shape the future of the way the subject is taught.
Alison said: “I am really honoured to be asked to be the first technical ambassador for education.
“I have worked alongside the teams at both City & Guilds and MHFed over the last few years to give my advice about barbering education, so I am very proud to take up this official role.
“With my experience working on the education side of barbering with East Durham College over the last 12 years, as well as working out in the industry, I believe that I have a unique view to bring to the table, knowing both what goes into the teaching side and what salons around the country are looking for from students.
“I am really looking forward to helping the team educate the next barbering stars of the future.”
Adam Sloan, founder of the MHFed and Chairman of City & Guilds Barbering Industry Board, added: “We are delighted to welcome Alison on board in this new role with us.
“Alison has worked closely with us for the last few years now at City & Guilds, and it’s great to have her in this new role.
“She has a tremendous passion for barbering and her experience in education on the subject through her work at East Durham College will be key to our future projects regarding teaching in barbering throughout the UK.”
