College Students Are A Cut Above The Rest

Two East Durham College barbering students have been nominated for prestigious awards in a national competition.

Georgia Leadbetter, 23, from Seaham and Kirsty Brownless, 24, from Peterlee, have both been placed in the final 10 of their respective categories at the British Barbers Association 2016 student competitions.

Georgia has been named in the top 10 for the Creative student barber of the year category and Kirsty for the Classic student barber of the year category.

The two students will now travel to the 2016 Barber UK exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC on Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd May to find out if they have placed in the top three of their categories.

East Durham College barbering lecturer, Alison Scattergood, has praised Georgia and Kirsty for their hard work over the last year and believes these nominations are well deserved.

Alison said: “Kirsty and Georgia are fantastic students and have worked really hard over the past year on their qualifications at the college.

“This is great recognition for the ability that both these students have, and I am very proud of what they have achieved.

“We can now look forward to travelling to Barber UK and finding out if they have placed in the top three.

“It’s a great way to end a brilliant year for barbering at East Durham College.”
