EDC Students’ Union Get Behind NHS Stop Smoking Campaign

East Durham College’s Students’ Union are getting behind the NHS’s Stop Smoking campaign by setting up weekly sessions to help students and other members of the public quit the habit.

NHS staff will be on hand to help people through the process alongside Students’ Union reps.

Two sessions will be set up, one at the College’s Peterlee Campus and one at the Houghall Campus over in Durham.

Peterlee sessions will take place every Tuesday, between 12pm-2pm in room G102, whilst the Houghall sessions will be taking place every Thursday between 12pm-2pm in the Learning Resource Centre.

Student liaison officer Jamie Calford hopes the sessions can help make a difference to what can be a very tough thing to do.

Jamie said: “It’s great to be working alongside the NHS to put these sessions together at the College.

“Giving up smoking can be a huge task, so it’s great to be able to help anyone wanting to give up some extra help.

“We aren’t just aiming this at our students, we also want anyone out there wanting to give up to pop along to the College to speak with the staff from the NHS and get signed up to help kick the habit.”
