The Growing Healthy bus has arrived at East Durham College and will spend the rest of the week at the Peterlee-based college, offering its students a range of health advice and support services.
Students are being encouraged to visit the bus to find out about a range of services, including information and advice regarding alcohol and drugs abuse, help and support with quitting smoking, mental health issues, and information relating to energy drinks, healthy eating and exercise.
Alfie Wilkinson, student liaison officer, said: “It’s great to have this fantastic resource come and visit the college, especially during mental health awareness week.
“This unique service highlights the college’s desire to provide positive health and wellbeing messages to the wider student body and to do so in a more open environment has already proved hugely popular.”
The bus and its confidential support and advice, for people aged 5-19, are delivered by Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with Durham County Council.
