Overview of the course: 

Farming and Agriculture has been a major part of Bob Shaw’s working life. As Agriculture Lecturer here at Houghall he enjoys working in many different aspects of agriculture using farming methods both traditional and modern. With a keen interest in the countryside and environmental issues Bob has taken on roles within various committees including Secretary and Founder Member of Lakeland Shearers which is the biggest one day shearing competition in UK and also Founder Member and Chairman of the National Alpaca Shearers Association. Bob thoroughly enjoys teaching the next generation of Farmers and we are delighted to announce a range of new agricultural short courses including, lambing, sheep shearing, sheep dog training and small holders course.

How is the course assessed?: 

Bob has 40 years’ experience working with livestock including some time working in zoo management and 30 years of working with Camelids. Within this practical course you will learn all aspects of sheep, goat and cattle care and production and where required, exotics. All individual types of small holding livestock will be covered in this course so let us know what animals you want to cover. A general farm maintenance and paddock care will also be included.

1 day course 10 am to 3 pm

Sunday 11th, 18th February 2018 and Saturday 21st and 28th April 2018
