Overview of the course: 

A practical two-day course covering the safe use and operation of a tractor. The Houghall Campus estate provides the ideal environment for your to gain practical skills and knowledge and gives you the opportunity to develop skills to progress in land based industries.

Entry requirements: 

There are no formal entry requirements

Topics: 

General Health & Safety at Work HASWA (1974).
Daily maintenance requirements on tractors. Identification and use of tractor controls. Pre-checks before starting a tractor. Starting and stopping procedures. Tractor Operation including: Use of gears, Manoeuvring, Reversing and Hitching trailers. Safety implications of operating tractors on banks. Use of a fore end loader. Attaching a three point mounted implement.

How is the course assessed?: 

You will be assessed throughout the course through practical activities.

Further study options after this course: 

Additional practical machinery units can be added e.g. The NPTC Level 2 Award in the Operations of Tractors for working in the industry is an accredited qualification
