GCSE/Functional Skills Maths (Fast Track)
Achieving a Functional Skills or GCSE qualification is a stepping stone into many types of education and employment. Many universities requires you to have at least a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification 4 in GCSE to be accepted onto a graduate course. Similarly many employers now require you to have some level of Maths qualification to demonstrate you have the necessary number, reasoning and problem solving skills needed in the work place.
The course is delivered in class-based taught sessions, supported by use of our online learning environment (Moodle). Different modes of attendance are available for Functional Skills and GCSE. The GCSE route is delivered as a 5 hours per week programme until summer, with the aim of sitting an exam during the summer period. The Functional Skills route is taught as a Fast Track programme; this includes 25 hours of class-based delivery and 20 hours self study over 2 weeks to sit an exam at the end of 2nd week.
There are no formal entry requirements to the course but your acceptance for either Functional Skills or GCSE will be based on assessment results that you will be required to sit on enrolment.
You will study Maths which includes both theoretical knowledge and practical development of your skills in main areas: Numbee, Data Handling and Shape and Space and Algebra (only for GCSE)
You will be assessed in a final exam but formative assessment will take place throughout the year to assess and track your progress. Also this will help you prepare for your final exam.
