Multi-Skilled Tristan Is Off To Dunlop Skills Final
An East Durham College student is heading off to a national final to show off all his construction skills.
Tristan Osborne, 35, from Peterlee, has been selected by lecturers on his construction skills course to go through to the finals of the Dunlop National Multi-skill Challenge.
Tristan was selected after a rigorous assessment over the last few months by construction staff at the college and Dunlop Technical Support Manger, Gareth Birks, who visited the college last week to present Tristan with his college champion trophy.
Tristan is now getting set to compete against 29 other construction students from around the country in the final, a multi-skill champion test at Dunlop’s state-of-the-art Innovation and Technology Centre in Stoke-On-Trent on 16th June, with the chance of winning a grand prize of £500 worth of tools.
Lecturer in bricklaying at East Durham College, Peter Sinclair, has been impressed with Tristan’s work over the past year and believes this competition will be a fantastic opportunity for him to show off his talent.
Peter said: “Tristan’s course here at East Durham College sees him work on bricklaying, tiling, plastering as well as painting and decorating.
“All his tutors over the past year have seen some great skills from Tristan and we believe he will be a great representative for the college at this high profile national event.”
Dunlop Technical Support Manager, Gareth Birks, added: “This is the first time that Dunlop have run this competition and the response from training establishments around the country have been brilliant.
“We have been helping with training in colleges for many years now and we thought this would be a great opportunity to recognise students’ skills whilst familiarising students with the work we do here at Dunlop.”
