Overview of the course: 

Learners will have the opportunity to develop skills in a range of outdoor activities including mountain walking, rock climbing, mountain biking and kayaking. They will have a chance to visit a number of areas including the Lake District and Wales as part of expedition training. Learners will also develop their individual attributes through sport, fitness and outdoor education activities. In addition to learning about the outdoor education industry, learners will develop the skills required to start a chosen career in either the industry or in the Armed Forces.

Entry requirements: 

Applicants require five GSCEs at 9-4 grades, including Maths and English.

Topics: 

The course comprises of a combination of practical and academic units, including:
• Anatomy and physiology
• Assessing risk in sport
• Expedition Experience
• Leadership in Sport
• Skills for land based and water based outdoor adventurous activities
• Principles and practices in Outdoor Adventure

As part of the course you will have the opportunity to take part in a number of residential activities relating to the subject area:

• Army Look at Life Insight Course - A five day residential in May
• Outdoor Expedition - A three day residential in June

How is the course assessed?: 

Units will be assessed throughout the course in a range of ways. The majority will be written assignments incorporating presentations, production of photographic evidence and practical observations. There are also externally assessed Units which require successful achievement.

Fees: 

Fees for this course are: £4670.00

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

If you are aged 19 or over on the day your main course starts you may be able to take out an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for this course.

There is a requirement to wear a uniform for the course which is currently £130. Students with limited income can claim up to 75% of these costs.. Further information will be sent to you closer to enrolment in August if you are accepted on to the course.
