The level 1 Diploma will qualify you to perform basic decorating tasks which would enable you to look for employment or work experience with a qualified decorator.

Overview of the course: 

The course is designed for those who are new to the construction sector and have an interest in painting and decorating. The course provides a basic introduction to decorating skills. The study programme consists of 3 hours per week of Maths and English, 9 hours practical, 2 hours theory and over the course of the year 36 hours of work experience.

Entry requirements: 

No formal qualifications are required. A good level of maths and English would be an advantage. Additional support is provided if required. You will be interviewed by a member of the curriculum team and complete an initial assessment in literacy, numeracy and practical skills.

How is the course assessed?: 

You will be assessed throughout the course, for each unit to be completed you must complete a practical skills test and a theory test. The theory test is completed on-line and the questions are externally set by CSkills, the practical assessments are completed in the workshop after the completion of each unit.

Upon successful completion of the level 1 Diploma you may progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Painting & Decorating

Fees: 

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

If you are aged 19+ years old you may be required to pay fees for your course, however if you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group or other work related benefit and you are undertaking this qualification to find work, your fees may be paid by the Government.

Learners under 25 years old with a statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan will not pay fees.

There is a requirement to wear personal protective equipment for this course. The cost of equipment is currently £25. Students with limited income can claim up to 75% of these costs. Further information will be sent to you closer to enrolment in August if you are accepted on to the course.
