The level 2 Diploma will qualify you to perform a range of decorating tasks as either a self employed decorator or look towards employment within the decorating sector.

Overview of the course: 

The is designed for those who are experienced in Painting and Decorating or have completed the level 1 Diploma . The course provides a good progression route for NVQ 2 in Painting & Decorating. On completion of the course you will be able to: Prepare surfaces to receive paint materials , apply paint materials by brush and roller, apply standard wallpapers to non complex walls, apply decorative finishes and apply paint materials by HVLP spray.

The study programme consists of 3 hours per week of Maths and English, 10 hours practical, 2 hours theory and over the course of the year 72 hours of work experience.

Entry requirements: 

No formal qualifications are required. You will need to have completed Level 1 Diploma A good level of maths and English would be an advantage. Additional support is provided if required. You will be interviewed by a member of the curriculum team and complete an initial assessment in literacy, numeracy and practical skills.

How is the course assessed?: 

You will be assessed throughout the course, for each unit to be completed you must complete a practical skills test and a theory test. The theory test is completed on-line and the questions are externally set by CSkills, the practical assessments are completed in the workshop after the completion of each unit.

Further study options after this course: 

Upon successful completion of the level 2 Diploma you may progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Painting & Decorating.

1 Year Daytime, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

Fees: 

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

If you are aged 19-23 on the day your main course starts and do not have a level 2 or above qualification you may not have any fees to pay.

If you do have a level 2 or above qualification or you are aged 24 years or over and employed on the day your main course starts fees for this course are payable. However if you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group or other work related benefit and you are undertaking this qualification to find work, your fees may be paid by the Government.

If you do need to pay fees they are:

There is a requirement to wear personal protective equipment for this course. The cost of equipment is currently £25. Students with limited income can claim up to 75% of these costs. Further information will be sent to you closer to enrolment in August if you are accepted on to the course.
