Scene1 Restaurant Set To Reopen

East Durham College’s restaurant, Scene 1, is set to reopen its doors as the new academic year gets underway.

Now that the new academic year is once again in full swing Scene1, based in the College’s Peterlee Campus, on Willerby Grove, will be open Wednesday-Friday lunchtimes (12pm-2.30pm) as well as Tuesday evening (7pm-9pm) and Thursday evening (6pm-9pm) from Tuesday 20th September.

Tuesday evenings will see final year students offer a fine dining menu, led by Head Chef Stephen McPhail, who has over 35 years’ experience working in professional kitchens.

Tuesday will also see the introduction of a new special offer of three courses and any drink for £16.95pp.

Whilst Thursday evenings will see students prepare bistro style pub grub meals.

Scene1 will also host a number of themed nights through the year, with special events such as Valentines, Burns Night, St Patricks just to mention a few.

On the evenings we also offer a take away service for part time students for those wanting to grab a ‘quick bite’ before or evening during their lesson.

Sharon Littler, Programme Leader for Hospitality & Catering, can’t wait to get the restaurant back into full swing as the students get the opportunity to put their skills into practice in a real working environment.

Sharon said: “The restaurant is a really important aspect of the training our students receive. It ensures they get real life experience of serving and cooking for real paying customers.

“It’s great when the restaurant is full of customers as it puts the students under real pressure and teaches them how to cope with it - and that’s vital experience in this industry.”

The Scene1 restaurant features a full wine menu and extensive bar and of course children are always welcome with a dedicated children’s menu available at all times.

All the food is freshly prepared and made on the day, using high quality local fresh produce.
