Sport Centre Takes Part In New Family Fitness Initiative
A new family fitness initiative in east Durham is reaping healthy gains having worked with over 200 young people and their parents.
My Sporting Chance is delivered by Durham County Council’s physical activity officer Chris Elliott, NHS Health visitor Lisa Walvin and NHS health trainer Alex Birbeck.
Each eight-week initiative provides fitness testing and health screening, along with fun innovative physical activity sessions for parents and young people, aged six to 13 years.
Mr Elliott said: “Families have made substantial improvements in their fitness and health indicators on completion of each course.
“Due to the success of My Sporting Chance, £20,000 in funding has been secured for delivery until 2018.
“The initiative is aimed at encouraging young people to adopt a more active lifestyle and take part in sports and activities they would not to otherwise.”
Sessions are held at East Durham College, Peterlee Leisure Centre and the Pavilion.
My Sporting Chance, is free and caters for all abilities. The next course will from January 17. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact 07786026925.
