Supported Routes 2 Work

Do you or a loved one have special educational needs and/or disabilities, and are looking for support and training to get into employment? Thanks to a joint venture between East Durham College and Durham Works, the Supported Routes 2 Work programme is here to help.

Please note that to eligible for this programme, you must:

  • Be living in County Durham
  • Be aged 19-24
  • Have special educational needs/disabilities
  • Have completed employability and life skills courses
  • Be unemployed
  • Be ready to take the next step into employment

Supported Routes 2 Work is a programme developed by East Durham College and Durham Works, designed to provide free coaching and training with a specialist supported employment enterprise coach for young people aged 19-24 from the County Durham area. This programme is specifically designed for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities and is made to improve confidence, abilities and to provide advice to those looking for work.

We understand that the concerns of finding work and building confidence in order to tackle interviews and day-to-day working tasks can be daunting for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities; this programme aims to prepare you for this through specialist training and advice over a period of several weeks (one day per week).

What Does the Supported Routes 2 Work Programme Cover?

This programme is all about promoting your independence. Your specialist coach will assist with building your skills and confidence, delivering useful training and advice to help you succeed in the world of work.

The programme covers many different topics, including building positive mind-sets, social, emotional and communications skills development, travel training, timekeeping, conduct at work, money management and personal presentation. There may also be the opportunity to gain accredited and licence-to-practice qualifications relevant to your occupational area.

During the programme you'll get to go on a real work placement and your coach will also assist with enhancing your CV.

When is the Supported Routes 2 Work Programme Running?

This programme runs for a minimum of 10 weeks, one day a week. The programme starts on a rolling basis, so please contact us using the details below for more information on when you can attend.

We will be running this programme at East Durham College's Houghall Campus, which is situated in Durham.
