Technical Academy Trade Event Success
The new Technical Academy at East Durham College held a special trade event on Tuesday 23rd November 2010.
A number of construction and building services supplier companies exhibited so the students, staff and local tradesmen could find out more about their latest products and services.
The companies exhibiting and putting on demonstrations included BAL Adhesives, Ceramic Tile Distributors (CTD), Durham Fire Service, Frank Haslam Milan (FHM), Genesis, Harbro Lighting & Electrical, Howdens Joinery, Rubi, JG Speedfit, TracPipe, Tyco Thermal Controls, Velux, Weber and Wedi.
Barbara Archer, Business Manager at The Technical Academy, explained: “The aim of this event was to showcase the Academy and bring industry into the centre.
“It was a great opportunity for our students to learn about the latest products, techniques and building methods. These sorts of events are invaluable, they really help to enhanced the learners training and raise their aspirations.”
Richard Williams, Area Manager with Velux, gave a series of presentations on the importance of natural daylight and ventilation in sustainable building. Richard said: “It’s so important at all the different trades understand the latest developments in renewable energy and sustainable building. We were delighted to be invited to this event and hope the students found our presentation interesting.”
East Durham College’s Technical Academy is a new centre of excellence, located in 37,000 sq. ft. unit on the South West Industrial Estate in Peterlee, providing training in a range of construction trades including; Gas & Electrical Installation & Maintenance, Plastering and Wall & Floor Tiling. It is also developing training in renewable energy technologies.
