Community Qualifications
EDC - East Durham College

The Community team continue to provide educational opportunities for the local community in over 30 venues, predominantly across the District of Easington and in a few venues across County Durham. You may have also came in to contact with the department through the number of partnership events the team attend, including skills festivals, employment fayres, fun engagement days and other engagement events held throughout the year.

Community success rates are excellent; across all provision success rates were at 82%, 16% above benchmark. Community students are also very actively engaged in many voluntary events, many at the centres where they learn.

Recently, Level 3 Counselling students have all volunteered in the community for organisations such as the Samaritans and mental health centres. Progress from community courses is good with many examples of students moving into employment as diverse as a Customer Assistant with ASDA to a Petty Officer in the Royal Navy.

Progression into HE is also good, particularly for Counselling students, and some students are moving into employment for the first time in their adult lives.
