The Initial Teacher Training department prides itself in being an exceptional provider of training for those wishing to enter the Lifelong Learning Sector. The Department offers flexible part time provision which provides various vocational and academic routes to working in the sector.  The success rates are outstanding. Most learners succeeding on our programmes go on to have successful careers in the sector.   A proactive partner is the University of Sunderland Centre of Excellence, which brings with it access to outstanding professional development and scholarly activity. Most team members are also Teaching and Learning Advanced Practitioners and are able to draw upon and share the good practice seen with learners. Mentoring and coaching have contributed significantly to the learning experience.  Partners in the DfES Pilot Project ‘Use of Coaching in Initial Teacher Training’ resulted in national and international accolade and praised as best practice.
