As a growth industry, Travel and Tourism offers a diverse range of job opportunities and career prospects. There are an estimated 1.4 million jobs related directly to tourism across the country, accounting for five per cent of total UK employment.
Our Travel and Tourism courses help you to develop the skills and knowledge you need to excel within the industry and help you achieve your goals. All of these skills will be gained through practical activities in realistic workplace situations. Your studies will also be enriched by practical 'real-world' projects, work placement opportunities and visits from guest speakers who are experts in tourism and travel.
You will be taught by enthusiastic staff with travel and tourism industry experience who are dedicated to helping you achieve your ambitions.
East Durham College also has its very own travel agency, EDC Travel.
EDC Travel is a fully ABTA Bonded Travel Agency set up by East Durham College in partnership with the Hays Independence Group.
As well as the store manager, EDC Travel is also be staffed by the College’s travel & tourism students, with the aim that the store will provide the students with valuable work experience, which will help them, learn the necessary skills to get ahead in the industry.

Trips & Activities
The College’s Travel & Tourism students gain further opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge through a number of visits and trips which are organised as part of the course. Recently, these have included visiting locations including the London Eye, York, Alton Towers and Hartlepool Historic Quay.
