UFC fighter Ross Pearson trains at the East Durham College sport centre boxing gym

UFC Fighter Stops By To Train With Top College Boxing Coach

He might have travelled all over the world but UFC fighter Ross ‘The Real Deal’ Pearson looked a little closer to home when he wanted some world-class training ahead of his next big fight.

Ross, 30, from Sunderland, dropped into East Durham College’s boxing gym for a training session with leading boxing coach Dave Binns, ahead of his next bout in Sydney, Australia, in three week’s time.

Globetrotter Ross has fought in some fantastic places around the world, from the US and Mexico to Sweden and Brazil.

But it’s a return to his wife’s home city of Sydney next, as he gets set to do battle with American fighter Al Iaquinta.

And the lightweight professional fighter decided to call into the Peterlee-based College for a one-on-one fine tuning session with Dave Binns before his departure.

Ross said: “Dave is a world-class coach and I always try and pop in for a session with him ahead of a big fight.

“I’ve trained with many coaches around the world, I’ve been boxing since I was 12 and Dave is just the best to work with.

“He’s just such an inspirational coach to be around.

“Some people have a knack for coaching and he has it, he just finds the little things other coaches don’t, he gives you that extra bit of advice to add to your performance and in professional sport that can make all the difference.”

And Ross believes he’s in the best physical shape he’s ever been in ahead of the fight.

Ross added: “I’m at my peak now, I’m really feeling in the best shape that I have ever been in and at this time I really believe I can go on to beat anyone in the world in that ring. If anyone’s going to get in the ring with me they should be scared because I’m 100 per cent prepared at the minute.

“I can’t wait to get to Sydney, I really think I can get the win out there and I just can’t wait to be in that ring, it’s going to be a hell of a night.”
