A Very Good Showing
The Scope BSJA Festival Of Show Jumping Championships, held earlier this month, is the largest show jumping event in the UK. Every year 1000's of show jumping fans visit Stafford to participate and see a show jumping spectacular. There are show jumping classes ranging from 1m amateur classes up to and including Grand Prix's there is a class to suit all levels of competition.
Carla Bolam, aged 24 from Haswell, a groom on the staff at East Durham College, Houghall Campus, in the Equine Unit competed with her horse CARTIZO Z (known as Zed) and finished a very well placed 5th in the 1.05m Sandycroft Adventurer Class.
To put the scale of the achievement into context, Carla had to qualify to go to the Championships to start with, and then found that there were 250 entries in the Championship first round - with only 15 to qualify for the final from her pool. Carla and Zed managed to qualify in 15th!
The final, in the Championship ring, had a total of 35 entries and in a jump off (of 24), with only one second covering 1st to 12th, Carla was thrilled to finish 5th.
Cartizo Z was a late starter to competing, due to transport issues, so Carla was ‘over the moon’ at what he achieved and was rewarded for the patience she had shown him. Carla will now target the next class up with Zed.
