A Level English Language
With English Language you could go onto work in public and private sector such as the National Health Service (NHS), educational institutions, local and national government, financial and legal firms.
Other typical employers include publishing companies, advertising, marketing and public relations agencies and media organisations. The retail, leisure and tourism sectors also typically recruit English Literature students.
AS Level- Language Today/ Exploring the Writing Process.
A2 Level- Language investigation/ Language Diversity and Child Language Acquisition.
Five 9-4 GCSE grades (6 or above in English Lit and/or English Lang).
AS Level- Language Today- Students will explore how language choices reflect the identity of the user and how language use varies in context across a variety of contemporary methods of communication. Written, spoken and electronic tests will be explored in detail. The second unit is called 'Exploring the writing process'- students create a portfolio that includes two creative pieces. These will be supported by analytical commentaries of their own work.
In A2 students will complete an independent investigation into language, as well as studying language diversity and child language acquisition.
AS- Internally assessed coursework of 2000-2500 words maximum. For assessment, students will submit a coursework folder comprising two pieces of their own writing: one for a reading audience and one for a listening audience, both accompanied by commentaries. Exam: 2 hours 15 minute exam.
A2- Internally assessed coursework of 2500-3000 words maximum. For assessment, students will present an investigation on a topic of their own choice, utilising a methodology they have selected. Externally assessed examination: 2 hours 45 minutes.
