East Durham College student Alex Bagher was recently presented with the Sport Award at the College’s February Student Awards ceremony.
Alex, aged 19 from Sunderland, is studying on a Level 1 Sport and Active Leisure course at the College as well as attending ESPA College’s Tasker site in the Ashbrooke area of Sunderland.
East Durham College Lecturer in Sport Craig Shields said: “Alex has a fantastic approach to all his college work. He manages to juggle the very busy schedule of his main programme here along with the work he does at ESPA College.”
Alex is certainly not shy of hard work and has taken on loads of extra activities such as attending evening classes to study British Sign Language and volunteering to help out at the SAFC Foundation.
“Alex is a pleasure to have in class and in our Football Development Programme where he has shown vast improvement. Well done,” added Craig.
Alex’s efforts and improvement on the pitch recently resulted in him getting his debut for the College Football Team, where as usual he showed a fantastic attitude.
ESPA College is part of Education and Services for People with Autism. The Independent Specialist Further Education College offers a positive educational experience that prepares students for their future life, well-being and work.
Howard Kennedy from ESPA College, added: “Alex should be very proud of himself. His achievements are down to his commitment, motivation and determination to succeed. The award is a justified reward for an extremely committed young man.”
