An East Durham College engineering apprentice was announced as the winner of a major regional award at a recent ceremony in Harrogate.
James Faulks, 20, from Ingleby Barwick, won the Outstanding Apprentice of the Year award at the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside EEF Future Manufacturing Awards.
James, who studies on an apprenticeship in engineering at East Durham College with a work placement at Peterlee-based engineering company AKS Ball, picked up the award at a ceremony held at the Great Yorkshire Showgrounds in Harrogate.
The area James was competing in is the largest covered by the regional awards in the country and the win means James is now up for the National Outstanding Apprenticeship award.
This means James will have to take part in a presentation and interview day in Westminster in December before travelling back to London for the award ceremony at The Grand Connaught Rooms in London’s Covent Garden in January.
James has been praised by staff both from the college and his work placement at AKS Ball, for his hard work and attitude, and congratulated on picking up this well-deserved award.
Apprenticeship trainer and assessor at East Durham College, Dion Bowes, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for James so early on in his engineering career, and it is very well deserved.
“James is a hard worker who produces work to a great standard as part of his college course and the feedback from his work on placement at AKS Ball has been brilliant.
“We now wish James all the best of luck ahead of the national final in January.”
Susan Huntsman, HR Manager at AKS Ball, added: “We are extremely proud of this great achievement for James.
“We don’t take on many apprentices here at AKS Ball but we have been really impressed with James since he has joined, he has worked really hard and this award is proof of that.
“We will certainly look to take on more apprentices working alongside East Durham College in the future.”
