Level 3 Award in Aerial Tree Pruning and Level 3 Award in Aerial Tree Rigging
If you achieve this qualification, you will have the opportunity to obtain a competency card for employment within the key professional sectors, thus enabling further employment opportunities for which competency is a significant requirement.
This is a combined course which covers;
Level 3 Award in Aerial Pruning (Formerly CS40): Arboricultural Pruning Operations requires you to climb trees and use the relevant ropes and harness, along with a chainsaw, in order to carry out pruning operations. It is therefore essential when combining these activities that you have all round total confidence and expertise in what you are doing, so to avoid any accidents.
Level 3 Award in Aerial Tree Rigging (Formerly CS41): This unit will explain how to evaluate the tree for hazards as well as performing an assessment of working at height. This will identify the correct selection of rigging equipment to be used. Then the safe removal of tree sections using suitable rigging and appropriate cuts.
All candidates must hold the Level 2 award in chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting (CS30), Level 2 award in felling and processing trees up to 380mm (CS31), Level 2 award in accessing a tree using a role and harness (CS38. 1), Award in aerial tree rescue operations (CS38. 2) and also a Award in aerial cutting of trees using free fall techniques (CS39). Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal. Where relevant, the term ‘entry requirements’ also includes DBS checks, references, fitness to practice, etc.

The new rope rigging/zip line techniques
The course is assessed by a external practical assessment by NPTC the day after training
This is a 5 day practical course with a practical assessment on the day after training
