East Durham Boxing students flocked to the Rainton Meadows Arena in Houghton-le-Spring on Saturday 9th April to support 2 of their latest boxing stars.

Paul Archer and Glenn Foot, now both in the professional ranks, pulled off exciting performances dominating from the first bell.

Paul, 20, from Easington is a student at East Durham College in his second year of a foundation degree in partnership with the University of Sunderland. As well as showing true dedication to his studies he spends 18 hours a week both in the gym or practising his technique, skills and performance.

Paul is trained by East Durham College and England coach Dave Binns.

During the match, consisting of x4 3-minute rounds, he was up against stubborn Birmingham Boxer Sid Razak, but managed to dominate throughout making it an easy win and proving that hard work and commitment pays off when it counts.

He said: “I am pleased with the win, obviously, but I want to get better. I need to put some things right in the gym and make sure I keep improving because I know I have more in the tank.”

Glenn Foot, 23, from Sunderland, who also approached David Binns to coach him took his 4th professional win against former East Durham College student Matthew Doyle from York.

A solid display of footwork, power punching and technique saw Glenn take the win against previously unbeaten Doyle after only 1 minute 20 seconds.

He said: “I thought I was going to just take my time and get some rounds under my belt but as soon as I threw my 1st right hand I knew he couldn’t live with me.”

Trainer and Head of East Durham Boxing David Binns said: “Both lads are a pleasure to work with. They are an inspiration to both the students here at the College and within the community club. To see talent come right through the Boxing ranks up to the professional ladder is a great sense of achievement.”
