Peter Jones Enterprise Academy student Nathan Newton has been awarded an East Durham College Student of the Month award for March.

Nathan, 17, from Horden, joined the academy in September and has been working really hard since the start of his course which has seen him launch a budding new business.

The new start-up business sees Nathan importing specialist model parts from different countries around the world which he then trades around the UK.

Nathan is happy with the progression of the business and has even started to pitch for further investment.

Nathan said: “I’m really glad I joined the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy at the College. I have had some fantastic experiences already and I’ve really enjoyed putting my business together.

“I’m really happy with how the business is going and I am working really hard to make sure I can make it as successful as possible.”

Peter Jones Enterprise Academy lecturer Jill Campbell has praised Nathan for his positive and mature approach and also the hard work Nathan has put in since joining the course.

Jill said: “Nathan has been fantastic since joining the course. He has attended all workshops and has got his business idea off the ground and even pitched for investment.

“As well as working really hard on his business he’s balanced his work really well. Nathan is very committed and has a very positive approach to his work, showing high standards in all he does, making excellent progress to date against targets and deadlines he has been set.”
