East Durham College’s restaurant Scene1 will be holding a special Burns Night Supper event on Thursday 27th January, which is open to the public.
Joe Keenan, Head Chef Lecturer at the College who is from Glasgow, said: “All the team are really enjoying planning and preparing for the event. It will provide the hospitality and catering students with some the valuable experience of planning and putting on a themed night event.”
The event is sure to be a big hit under the expert supervision of the Glaswegian who is also currently working as Head Chef at the Newcastle Falcons.
Joe’s CV is impressive and includes leading on the opening of the Barcelona, Madrid, Glasgow and Edinburgh Hilton Hotel restaurants. Plus he also owned and ran his own restaurant, the Centurion Inn at Langley Park, which was in ‘The Good Food Guide’ top 5 nationally for 10 years and Joe has also gained 13 rosettes over the course of his career.
Catering student Jenifer Malkin, aged 17 from Seaham, added: “It’s great to get to learn from a chef as good as Joe, he’s an inspiration. I’m really looking forward to the Burns Night event, it will hopefully be dead busy and a real buzz.”
