On The Buses

During April and May, East Durham College is running its first ever bus advertising campaign. To help support other promotional activity for their forthcoming Houghall Campus open day, 15 bus sides (or Streetliners as they are know in the trade) have been booked to run for the next 4 weeks.
Alistair Cummins-MacLeod, Marketing Manager at the College, said: “In the past the college has just used local press to promote the event. We wanted to start to use a wider range of media to ensure we got the message out to our target audience, over as large geographical area as possible but to also increase coverage in the immediate catchment area of Durham. Buses are an unavoidable, high impact medium that you can plan geographically, so are a great way to achieve this.”
Karen Vickery, from CBS Outdoor who sell bus media, added: “Peoples’ habits are changing and more time is now spent out of home than ever before. Outdoor media (especially buses) offer an effective community solution and raise awareness by connecting with its audience. With a 75% reach with 15-24 year olds and a 77% reach with students expecting to start at college within the next 12 months, buses offer a highly visible targeted solution.”
Like buses you wait for ages then two come along. The College has recently also used bus media to get the message out about two important projects they are running for people who have recently been made redundant or been out of work for over 6 months.
