Students at East Durham College have set up a new business venture with the aim of getting a share of the Christmas retail spend.

The Level 2 Business students, based at the College’s Peterlee Campus, have set up the Quirky Christmas Gifts Enterprise Project that will see them sell an array of different festive gifts.

The enterprise project has been run for the last two years by different groups of previous students and has been a huge hit, and the business staff and students are hoping for another successful response this year.

The range of quirky gifts that the students have come up with to sell this year include Snowman Soup, Chill pill bath bombs, gifts for Santa and letters from Santa.

The students are also running a guess the reindeer name competition which will see entrants have the opportunity to win a large stuffed reindeer.

Lecturer Louise Johnson said: “This is an excellent opportunity for the students to gain first-hand experience in setting up a business.

“They have come up with some great ideas and now hopefully they will be able to hit their sales targets and make a profit on the products they are selling.”
