East Durham College students Laura Wilkinson and Chris Hall recently won the Business Award at the College’s March Student Awards ceremony.

Laura, 17, from Peterlee, is studying a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business and Chris, 18, also from Peterlee, is studying a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma In Business.

Their lecturer Rachel Meredith said both Chris and Laura have excellent attendance and punctuality at 100% this has continued since they started the programme in 2010.

She added: "They have always submitted their assignments on time and prior to the deadlines given. They are both working to distinction grades this year and are on target to achieve this.

"They are both professional with their outlooks and they worked on a market research project for the college and had to conduct surveys on this site as well as Houghall and they did this professionally. They have worked with staff in the college to gain information on varying subjects for the project.

"They work well in teams and will offer support to others in their groups as well as their other peers. We have merge groups this year so the extended and subsidiary groups are together and they have offered support to the first years with work they completed last year.

"They will work on their own initiative and they don’t like to have outstanding work hanging over them so will complete it to the best of their ability."

Chris and Laura have the attitude necessary to achieve at Level 3, they are committed to their studies and are a positive influence on the rest of the group.
