A promising young rugby player who is on track to play for his country has gained the support of Clive Owen & Co LLP, a firm of chartered accountants and business advisers.

Liam Riley, 18, plays in the first team for Darlington Mowden Park RFC;  represents East Durham College and has played for The North of England’s under 18s squad. His ambition is to gain a full England cap.

Liam, from Darlington, is studying at East Durham College having gained an Elite Rugby Scholarship.

To help the teenager achieve his goal of playing for England, he sought further financial assistance to cover costs such as kit, travel and health supplements.

Clive Owen & Co has given its support by providing Liam with new boots.

Nigel Riley, Liam’s father, was himself a rugby player and played at Darlington Mowden Park 30 years ago. He played as a prop in the team and was involved in successfully winning The County Cup.

During his time at the club he was coached by Clive Owen, senior partner at Clive Owen & Co. Clive was involved with Darlington Mowden Park for many years as chairman, player and coach.

Tony Luckett, partner with Clive Owen & Co, said: ”We are very proud to be able to support Liam in this way. We are pleased to be able to help having known the family for many years and our firm having such close links with Mowden Park Rugby Club.

“It would be a real boost to the club and the town for Liam to achieve his first England cap. To see the next generation have this opportunity is outstanding and we wish Liam every success.”

Nigel Riley said: “We give Liam all the support we can, however, we have had to ask for extra investment to help him work towards achieving his dream. We are extremely grateful to Clive Owen & Co for giving their support.”

Liam added: “I’m so excited about the future. I have been playing rugby since I was six years old and I am determined to reach my goal. To move up to the next level, I need financial support and those costs mount up, so I am very grateful that Clive Owen & Co have helped and provided me with the right boots for the job.”
