Award winner Lisa Loftus receives her certificate from East Durham College Principal Suzanne Duncan.

Lisa Loftus has received a student award after she returned to the college where she initially started her teaching training over 10 years ago.

Back in 2001 Lisa Loftus, 31, from Seaham, attended East Durham College on a teaching assistant course and in September this year she returned to the Peterlee-based college to study for a foundation degree in education and care.

And the mum of two has been praised for the hard work she has been putting in since returning to College and has been selected to receive an East Durham College Student of the Month award for December.

Lisa couldn’t believe she had been selected for the award and admitted she has loved every minute of the course.

Lisa said: “The course is fantastic. From the course topics to the people and the staff I am really enjoying being back at the College.

“I have been working hard with my work on the course and trying to submit my best work all the time but this award came as a total shock, I really am humbled to receive it.”

Lisa has been praised by her lecturers on the course for her mature attitude, initiative and the support she gives to other students during sessions.

East Durham College care lecturer Paula Kirton said: “Lisa has worked really hard since she returned to the College in September.

“She has a mature attitude and is always pushing herself to do her very best.

“Lisa has shown interest in all aspects of the course and her work has been to a great standard.

“But Lisa is not only concerned about her work on the course she is always willing to help others. She shares ideas and her experiences with the group to help them through the course too.”
