This qualification could lead to a Job working on Building sites, self employment,employed as a shopfitter, any related industry, window fitting, kitchen and shop fitting etc. Progression could be into site management, surveyor etc.

Overview of the course: 

The main focus of the level 3 programme is to develop practical skills needed for industry and enhance underpinning knowledge of relevant industrial processes and techniques. These will be delivered in a workshop environment for practical sessions and classroom based for theory sessions and academic tutorial. also incorporated into the study programme will be functional skills (maths & English), tutorial, work experience, academic tutorial and relevant trips & guest visits.

Entry requirements: 

Candidates will need to have completed a level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry.
Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal. Where relevant, the term ‘entry requirements’ also includes DBS checks, references, fitness to practice, etc.

Topics: 

This qualification enhances all the units in level two with additional tasks such as complex roofing including hips, valleys, rooflights. Staircases with returns, Rebated double doors, Inclined mouldings, Machine work.

How is the course assessed?: 

Formal and informal assessment of practical tasks.Externally marked exams.

Further study options after this course: 

On completion of a level 3 . Progression could be onto a construction management course, HNC, HND etc.

Fees for this course are;

Free if you are under the age of 19 on the 31st August 2019

Free if you are aged 19-23 on 31st August 2019 and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification – contact us to check your qualifications

Loan funded if you already have a full level 3 qualification or are aged 24 and over on 31st August 2019 - contact us to check your qualifications and for details of how to apply for an Adult Learner loan, which you won’t have to start repaying until you earn over £25,725 per annum.

*you must have been a legal resident of the UK/EU for the last 3 years
