Cassia Todd has won the Student of the Month award for her work on the Childcare course.

Cassia, 17, from Peterlee joined the childcare course in 2011 after leaving The Academy at Shotton Hall.

Cassia, now studying Level 3 Childcare in her second year at East Durham College, received the award for her development on the course showing significant improvement in many areas.

Claire Schonewald, Nursery Manager said: “Cassia’s attendance has improved from last year and so far this term she has 100 % attendance.

“Since returning for the new term Cassia has demonstrated a dramatic improvement wither her motivation towards the course.

“Cassia is very proactive in finding the information that is required to back up her work and she has shown significant development with her writing style."

It’s not just her written work that Claire has seen Improve, it is also Cassia herself who has grown.
Claire and the team in Childcare have seen a real improvement in Cassia’s confidence and she thinks this will really help show improvements in her work.

Claire added: “Cassia’s Confidence is continuing to grow with her. She now contributes more to class discussions, giving good answers. Cassia has previously doubted her ability in these areas and this change has really helped her all-round on the course.

“Cassia is striving to get the best grades possible and I believe she can really achieve these grades if she continues how she has started throughout the year.”
