East Durham College hosted a coffee and cake morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The event was held as part of Macmillan Cancer Trust’s attempt to host the world’s biggest coffee morning, with similar events taking place all across the country.
And the event at the College saw The Lubetkin Theatre taken over with a host of fresh cake stalls, tea and coffee stands and raffles.
Organiser of the event Caroline Finken said: “Last year's coffee morning at the College was a fantastic success so we knew we had to do it again this year."
And in the spirit of charity everyone came together; from volunteers on the day, Caroline’s friends and college staff all chipping in to help make today’s event become a great success.
Caroline added: “Once again everyone chipped in from the local community. Staff from the College came and helped out and students from the catering department were here all day to help.
“I contacted a friend of mine who makes cakes and she donated a cake for us to raffle as well as making 100 cup cakes to be sold, which was an amazing help.
“And then we all just got together and chipped in making and baking things, we just want to make a huge contribution to the charity.”
By the end of the day Caroline and her team of helpers had raised a huge £350 to go towards Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning total.
A delighted Caroline said: “Our aim was to better our total from last year and we did that which was brilliant. I am over the moon with what we have achieved today.
“We had a great response from around the campus and people enjoyed what they had and just kept coming back for more.”
