East Durham College is delighted to have once again successfully achieved a national quality award for its course and careers information, advice and guidance services, often referred to as CEIAG in the education sector.

The college, with sites in Peterlee and Durham, went through a rigorous cross-college three-day assessment and passed with flying colours.

Alistair Cummins-MacLeod, acting head of learner services, said: “The matrix Standard, a government-backed quality mark, is a very important seal of approval for the college.

Matrix Certificate“The tough assessment gave the institution top marks for how we provide advice and guidance in all areas of the college.

“We are absolutely delighted to have met these exacting national standards, which mean that anyone coming to East Durham College can have complete confidence in the advice and guidance we provide them on full time or part time courses or apprenticeship. They can be sure they are receiving the best impartial and quality advice and service from our highly qualified professional staff.

“Our staff work incredibly hard with students and external support services, employers and higher education providers, so seeing all their efforts recognised by this award is fantastic.”

The matrix Standard is the unique quality framework for organisations to assess and measure their information, advice and guidance services, which ultimately supports individuals in their choice of career, learning, work and life goals.

The standard consists of four elements that fit around an organisation’s business themes: leadership and management, resources, service delivery and continuous quality improvement.

The college will undergo another Matrix inspection in three years.
