College Introduces Rugby League Training

East Durham College are delighted to announce that they have just added rugby league as part of their successful Rugby Development Centre and appointed leading rugby league coach Robert Jones.

During his coaching career, Rob as set up a number of junior academies, trained university side and coached and developed professionals at both Gateshead Thunder and Newcastle Falcons.

Rob said: “I’m delighted to work at the Rugby development centre, the facilities are top notch, didn’t have anything like this when I was a kid, let me focus on the students, Looking forward to working with the community and maybe train some future local heroes”

Principal Stuart Wesselby added: “We are thrilled that our students will benefit from the vast experience and expertise Rob brings to the rugby development centre.“The addition of rugby league and the recent RFU and England Basketball Accreditations are really helping to position our Sports Development Centres as the best in the region.”

Jo Drapier, the North East Regional Manager for Development at the RFL, remarked: “It's great to see such a good quality coach like Rob in place. I believe that Rugby League will now go from strength from strength in East Durham.”

Jo went on to explain: “A key priority for Rob will be to work with the local community club, Peterlee Pumas, to help and support them in attracting new players. Another vital role will be his work with East Durham College to help increase participation in Rugby League at the College. It's certainly exciting times for Rugby League in the East Durham.”
