An East Durham College barbering lecturer has been battling it out with the top barbers from around the country at Salon International.
Lecturer Alison Scattergood, from Peterlee, recently travelled to London to take part in the huge event which saw her compete live on stage, completing with microphone in front of hundreds of hairdressers from around the world.
Just for Alison to compete in the competition was a huge achievement, as it is usually only salon owners who qualify for the event. But this year, Alison was invited to take part as the first ever college lecturer to make the final 10 stage of the competition.
And despite not finishing first, Alison hailed the event as a fantastic experience and the biggest competition she had ever been involved with.
Alison said: “This is a huge competition in the barbering world, many people in the industry would regard it as the best around.
“So to make the top 10 and have the chance to compete against the best barbers around was a very proud moment for me.
“And to be the first ever college lecturer to get to the final was just an amazing feeling, to have my work recognised from some of the greats in barbering was just a magnificent feeling.”
