A local college’s pre-employment training programme has recently scored a massive success.
East Durham College, in Peterlee, has been working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and a number of local employers to help equip local job seekers with the skills they need to prepare them for gaining employment.
The most recent example of the programme’s success resulted from working with Tesco. The supermarket giant recently opened a new store in Seaham and 6 of its new staff got their jobs through the pre-employment programme and a further 3 where taken on for work placements.
Business Development Manager at the College, Barbara Archer, said: “We are very pleased with the success of those who took part in the training and wish them well in their new careers at Tesco.
“Many employers are identifying pre-employment training as a key method in their recruitment process and the College is working closely with a number of employers such as Mission Foods and Randstad to offer this service.”
One such job seeker who benefited from the programme was Dale Bond, who’s 20 and lives in Horden.
Dale, who had been unemployed for seven months, took part in the programme and was successful in gaining employment at the new Tesco Express.
“I really enjoyed the course. It definitely helped with me confidence - especially the interview practice. Tesco must have been impressed with my interview as they offered me a better job than I’d applied for, I’m now working as Stock CA. I’m over the moon and loving it,” he said.
