East Durham College will once again host a special careers event to help local Year 9 school pupils think about what they might want to do when they leave school.
The annual careers’ fair, called One Step Beyond, is being held for the third year running on Thursday 7th February and is arranged to help the pupils explore possible future careers and therefore assist them in making their options and GCSE choices.
The College has been working in partnership with its local schools to bring together a wide range of local employers, training providers, armed forces, other further education colleges, sixth forms and universities - to help give the young people of the area as much information as possible about the options available to them when they finish school and beyond.
Pupils from Dene, Seaham, St Bedes’, Shotton Hall and Wellfield Schools will visit the careers exhibition which will take place at the College’s Peterlee Campus on Willerby Grove.
Sally Hudson, a Vice Principal at the College, explained: “Following the success of the previous events this will be the third time we have held this event specifically to help and support Year 9 pupils.
“It’s very important to help young people as early as possible in the process to start thinking about what they might do after school and what career they’d like to pursue.”
The College is expecting over 800 Year 9 pupils as well as a large number of its own students to visit the event.
