An East Durham College student has picked up an award at the Dance Factor Championships in Pwllheli, Wales.
Kirsty Bryson, 19, from Wingate, travelled to Wales as part of Karen Mullender School of Freestyle Dancing who were representing the North East at the competition.
Kirsty was delighted to come home with first prize, in her age group, beating off another 21 competitors and admits she was shocked that she won the trophy but believes she feels she has earned the prize after all the hard training she has done.
“It was a huge surprise to win the competition. There were some fantastic dancers in my group but I’ve worked really hard in my preparation for the event so I’m really proud of my performance,” Kirsty said.
Kirsty chose to continue her study at the College in September after completing a BTEC Diploma in Sport. She is now studying on a Foundation Degree in Sports and Exercise Development.
And she will have a busy year mixing her time between her studies and competing at various events and even representing England.
Kirsty added: “Next up is a competition in Scotland at the end of the month before travelling to Sweden in December with Karen Mullander, and here we will be the only representatives from England going so that is something I am really looking forward to.”
